One blisteringly hot Saturday afternoon in December 2002, at the age of 41, I received a phone call from a man who wanted to buy a car I had for sale. I met the man, sold my car and in the process had a long conversation with him which was to forever change of my life. He shared with me that he had healed himself naturally from cancer and claimed at least 97% of all disease could be healed naturally, without drugs or medical intervention and that 75% to 95% of all mental and emotional disturbances are caused by biochemical imbalances caused from poor dietary choices. While I was very sceptical, he seemed very knowledgeable and sincere so I continued to listen. Like most of us I was brought up to trust in our doctors and the medical system. To me health or lack of health was more or less a lottery draw based on genetics and luck. In other words I was living my life in a kind of default mode where I would react to disease by going to an “expert” for medication or surgery and took little or no responsibility for my own health. Until then, no one had told me that my highly processed and chemical laden diet (the standard Australian diet) was creating a potential time bomb which could (and probably would) lead to a whole host of degenerative diseases. This was such a radical paradigm shift for me. I found it hard to believe that nutrition could play such a key role in my health and happiness. Until now no one had ever taught me the importance diet played in my mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health. Amazingly, for my whole adult life I had immersed myself in personal development and deeply explored what it takes to create a truly happy and fulfilled life, however, I had totally overlooked a major piece of the puzzle: “you are what you eat” While this is not a new concept, most of us have become so disconnected from nature and blinded by marketing and indoctrination that the innate link between our health, happiness and diet has been all but severed. Armed with my fresh outlook on health and the support of my new friend, I changed my diet overnight to an organic plant based 80% raw food diet and the results were staggering! After an initial cleansing reaction my energy levels went through the roof, I needed 2 hours less sleep a night, colds and flu became history and I felt lighter, happier, more connected to nature and could no longer tolerate doing work I didn’t love. In addition to this when I switched to a 100% raw food diet my liver function tests normalised, despite having had Hepatitis C for 20 years. My friend told me that our bodies are “self-healing mechanisms” and by feeding them high quality nutrient dense foods and avoiding harmful chemicals (including pharmaceutical drugs) they look after themselves beautifully. After experiencing such a radical transformation in my own health and well-being, I became passionate about letting others know what I had discovered. I now know that at least 95% of disease was preventable and my mission was to help and educate as many people as possible to take charge of their health and free themselves from the old disease based paradigm. In November 2003 some friends and I began teaching “The Art Of Organic Gourmet Raw Food Preparation classes which we have now presented to nearly 2000 people across Australia, New Zealand and India. While our classes are incredibly informative and provide delicious healthy living food alternatives and inspiration, we realised that to really make a difference we needed to be able to offer participants affordable ongoing education and support. Transitioning to a living food lifestyle is not easy to do alone as our conditioning runs deep, our friends and family can find it hard to understand and we often have emotional attachments to less than healthy eating habits. In short our society doesn’t support approaches which differ to widely from the norm, even when they are highly affective. I was incredibly fortunate to have had someone personally guide and coach me through the transition to healthier living and I am now 100% committed to creating programs and support systems to help as many people as possible take the necessary steps to reach the radiant health and well-being which is their natural birthright. In May 2008 Runi and I created a free fourteen day online program, The Green Smoothie Challenge, which is designed to help people take the first steps towards regaining their health. The program offers simple daily steps, education, support, community and inspiration. After 5 months over 4000 people had participated in the GSC and we had received close to 1000 testimonials from participants in more than 30 countries sharing the incredible health benefits they experienced by just adding a green smoothies to their diet . When we saw the powerful effect the 2 week GS challenge had on people’s health it became clear that online “one step at a time” challenges work and our next project was to create a more comprehensive and even more powerful online program which would guide, educate, challenge and support participant’s one step at a time in the art of creating and maintaining peak health and well-being. We decided on a 12 month subscription program which we have called Ecstatic Health For Life which is the foundation of this website and our approach to assisting you reach your ultimate health goals. |
